Ancient Paris Church of San Cristoforo

The cemetery church, once the parish church of Passignano, was built before the year 1000 on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple with

with dimensions considerably bigger than today's. In fact the three original apses have been cut off, the altar has been moved forward and the pavement has been lifted up, as can be seen from the painted cut off figures on the columns. Some remains of frescoes have been preserved: on the walls of the central nave a cycle attributed in part to Policleto da Cola (1418), in part to unknown Umbrian masters of the first half to the 15th c. and a subject by Benedetto Bonfigli (1446). There are also traces of more ancient frescoes of the 13th and 14 th c., among which is the figure of a sainted bishop dating from 1250. Above the entrance, on the outside, a ceramic tile of 1500 represents San Cristoforo crossing the waters of a river full of fish.
