dimensions considerably bigger than today's. In fact the three original
apses have been cut off, the altar has been moved forward and the
pavement has been lifted up, as can be seen from the painted cut
off figures on the columns. Some remains of frescoes have been preserved:
on the walls of the central nave a cycle attributed in part to Policleto
da Cola (1418), in part to unknown Umbrian masters of the first
half to the 15th c. and a subject by Benedetto Bonfigli (1446).
There are also traces of more ancient frescoes of the 13th and 14
th c., among which is the figure of a sainted bishop dating from
1250. Above the entrance, on the outside, a ceramic tile of 1500
represents San Cristoforo crossing the waters of a river full of
fish. |
