In the locality of Quarantaia, on one of the most beautiful
hills overlooking the lake, the remains of this Roman villa
have recently been found, dating back to the 1c AD. Its impressive
proportions, not yet completely defined, suggest that the villa
was owned by wealthy masters; amongst the rooms which have been
identified, there are two communicating basins, probably used
as cisterns, the first one collecting spring water which was
then transferred into the second, and also a kiln to bake bricks. |
